This is just another attempt by grandstanding politicians like Senator Ashford and the bill's co-sponsors, senators Avery, Howard, Kruse and McGill to make it appear that they are doing something to fight crime and keep the citizens safe.This bill, had it been enacted in it's entirety prior to the tragic Von Maur shooting last year, contains nothing in it that would have prevented that incident from happening.

This is just another government commission that will end up giving us a report telling us nothing that we don't already know and certainly having no solutions that could prevent tragedies like this in the future. In fact, what's more likely to happen is this commisson could very well end up recommending that certain types of firearms or ammunition be outlawed from ownership of law-abiding citizens in Nebraska. This list of weapons could end up including handguns and semi-automatic weapons used for hunting and target shooting for no othe reason than that they "look dangerous". This is lunacy.

I urge all Nebraskans to contact your Senators via email or phone immediately to express your opposition to this bill. find your Nebraska Senator by district on this page or start on this page first if you don't know your district number where you live. You can send them an email or use this page with their names and district #'s listed down the left hand side for their phone #'s and mailing addresses. (Some of those pages are PDF files, you have to hit "Open" or "Save" in the box that comes up in order to see those lists) I suggest you call AND write, particularly if you find that your senator's name appears on the list of LB 958's co-sponsors. Again, those names are senators Avery, Howard, Kruse and McGill. Remember to always reference the bill # and indicate on all written communication that your remarks are "For The Record". Always include your name and city on all written communication to the senators, as well. Please pass this information on to as many outdoorsman, clubs and shooters as you can think of and tell them they must call and write their Nebraska Senators on this NOW! Thank you.
